The houses here
Sun City and the square are different jobs
Sun City Texas is the largest single block of homes in Georgetown and almost all of it is single-story, which changes what a good kitchen looks like. Reaching into the back of a low corner cupboard stops being a minor annoyance and starts being the reason a pan never gets used. Most of the work we do out there swaps low doors for deep drawers, puts pull-outs in the corners, and raises vanity height in the bathrooms, because comfort height is not a luxury item when it is your own house and you plan to stay in it.
Closer to the courthouse square the stock is a century older and nothing is square. Walls bow, ceilings drift, and a run of stock cabinetry sized in three-inch steps will fight that all the way along. Those kitchens are the clearest argument for cabinetry built to the measurement, because the gaps are where the trouble shows.
The newer construction west of I-35 around Wolf Ranch is a third case again: sound builder-grade boxes, a layout that works, and doors nobody loves. That is usually a refacing conversation rather than a remodel.

Interior work, exterior rules
Georgetown has both an active historic district near the square and detailed architectural standards inside Sun City. Cabinetry is interior work, so it rarely triggers either, but it is worth a five-minute check with your association before a delivery truck shows up, especially if anything is going to be staged in the driveway.

Our kitchen is from the nineties but the boxes are solid. Remodel or reface?
Sound boxes and a layout you like point to refacing. If the corners are dead space and the pantry is too shallow, that is a layout problem, and only a remodel fixes a layout.
Can you make an older kitchen easier to use without moving walls?
Usually, yes. Deep drawers instead of low cupboards, corner pull-outs, and a pantry sized to a real week of shopping change how a kitchen works without touching the plan.
